CEI 0-6-0 #3643 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Description:
Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in July of 1910 for the Chicago & Eastern Illinois as their number 21, it was renumbered to CEI #3643 in 1911. In June of 1939, the switcher was assigned duies at the Evansville, IN yard. The scrapper's torch caught up with the loco in October of 1948. This sturdy little switcher was caught by Sid Davies working the yard in Chicago Heights, IL.

Description:
Nice older photo of a Baldwin 0-6-0 switcher built in June of 1906 as C&EI #17. The loco was renumbered in 1911 to CEI 3639. This particular locomotive was leased to the Kansas City Southern Rwy based at Fort Smtih, AR, from 10/8/1942 to 6/5/1943. It was dismantled by the C&EI in November of 1946. Sid Davies photo

One of only two Alco-Schenectady 4-6-2 Pacifics built for the Chicago & Eastern Illinois. The loco served for nearly 36 years before being sold for scrap to Erman-Howell in August of 1949. No date, location or photographer was listed for the photo but since the tender has the loco number instead of the large "C&EI" lettering, it must be after 1941 when they repainted the tenders.

Here is an action shot of the Lima K-3 class 4-6-2 Pacific built in 1923 heading up a passenger train in Chicago, IL. Note the engineer's watchful eye on the track ahead. No date was given but since the tender has the loco number on its side, it has to be after 1941 when the rr dropped the "C&EI" lettering in favor of loco numbers. No photographer was listed either.

Since the tender carries the loco number, the photo must have been taken after 1941 when the C&EI switched tender markings to numbers rather the the former "C&EI" labels.
