Most, if not all, of the photographs in this album were captured in Northeast Wisconsin in the spring of 2019, so they are mostly CN operating on former C&NW, GB&W, MILW, and SOO rails. Once in a while I try to catch ELS and WSOR on former MILW rails too.

A CN through freight passes the station sign as it heads northeast via former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing (originally Town of Menasha until 14 Apr. '16), Winnebago Co., WI on 12 May '19. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. The locomotives are about to pass that turnout and transition to the former C&NW rails to head for Green Bay, WI. Train had two locomotives, CN 2918 and CN 3194. It sure was nice of the railroad to complete some much-needed brush clearing along the tracks here so that train nuts like me can capture better views of their trains. Unfortunately it also reveals the garbage dumped here illegally by lazy, stupid, inconsiderate 21st Century Americans, like the stack of tires just out-of-frame to the left or the TVs near the signal relay case.

A CN local crosses N. Lake St. as it heads northwest via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 18 May '19. Eggers Div. of VT Industries, 164 N. Lake St., an active rail customer, is partially visible at right. Founded at Neenah, WI, in 1910 as Hardwood Products Co., construction of the facility commenced in Oct. ’10. It was renamed Hardwood Products Corp. as a result of a merger with Mississippi Veneer & Lumber Co. on 20 Apr. ’22 (the latter company was formed by the same businessmen who founded the Neenah company). Eggers Industries acquired Hardwood Products Corp. in 1965 and renamed it Eggers Hardwood Products Corp. Eggers was founded by Fred W. Eggers at Two Rivers, WI in 1884 to make wood baskets used by farmers. They later started making plywood and other wood veneer products. The name was changed to simply Eggers Industries at some point. It was acquired by Holstein, IA, based VT Industries, Inc., on 2 Oct. ’18. There used to be 3 spurs to service the facility, now there is only 1.

The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here.

Description:
A CN local, with about 13 cars, approaches Towmen Rd., as it heads southwest via former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing (originally Town of Menasha, WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016), Winnebago Co., WI on 18 May '19. Local was headed back to Neenah from Shawano. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here (out-of-frame to the right) which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails. The Hwy. 41/Hwy. 10/Hwy. 441 (a.k.a. Tri-County Expressway) interchange (a.k.a. Polish Connection) can be seen in the background. The interchange opened to traffic on 30 Nov. '75, at the time it was simply a bridge to provide access to Hwy. 41 from Menasha. When Hwy. 10 was reconstructed and relocated ca. '97, this interchange was not simultaneously reconstructed to form a full interchange. It was recently reconstructed and expanded; the new, now full interchange was dedicated on 11 Jul. '18.

A CN container train parallels Harrison St. and passes Neenah Foundry Plant 2 & Plant 3 as it heads northeast via former SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 19 May '19. Train had two locomotives, CN 3071 and CN 2825. Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. The former C&NW rails run parallel on the other side of the train.

Train was preparing to set out and pick up cars and had two locomotives, CN 2235 and CN 2637. The former Lieber Lumber facility is partially visible at right. Part of that facility is used as a warehouse by somebody, the office/retail building is currently home to the Valley Academy for the Arts, 139 N. Lake St.

A CN through freight halts along Union St. at the former Sherry St. grade crossing at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 26 May '19. The historic Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., is partially visible beyond the train to the left. It was built in 1902 after the original 1892 building was destroyed by fire and is currently used for storage. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here.
