WSOR 10C
Title:  WSOR 10C
Description:  After a weekend of touring the WSOR system, the business train returns to Madison. In a city of mostly small-time, localized railroading, it feels great to witness vintage equipment in regular operation. Scenes like these are rare, and I'm certainly glad that I got out to fan the WSOR today!

WSOR 4052, 4051 and CSX 6035
Title:  WSOR 4052, 4051 and CSX 6035
Description:  The WSOR's newest acquisition, recently painted SD40-2 number 4052, leads sister 4051 and a rare find in Madison- CSX motor number 6035. This movement is a CSX-bound ballast train that (until today) uses WSOR hoppers and WSOR power. The train is entering Madison's east side on the Waterloo Sub, just behind East Towne Mall. This used to be the MILW passenger line into Madison from Milwaukee, and will be part of the Chicago-Milwaukee-Twin Cities passenger rail initiative (if it ever happens). This would also be the approximate site of a spur/station for the city of Madison's proposed commuter line. For the time being, this stretch of 10mph track hosts thrice-weekly MABLT locals and CSX rock trains. This scene will look pretty different in ten years (hopefully)...

Title:  WSOR 4052, 4051 and CSX 6035

Title:  Row, row, row!!!
Description:  A women's rowing club heads out of the bay towards Lake Monona for some early evening practice as the Wisconsin and Southern's elegant business train heads back to the yard after a day on the Reedsburg sub. Though not evident in this photo, this classy train certainly was turning heads. The rowing crew stopped just shy of the bridge underneath the tracks to watch the train roll by!

Title:  WSOR 4050
Description:  Sisters 4050 and 4052 earn their keep on this extra run of the JMA (Janesville-Madison freight). The SD40-2 may be one of the most common locomotives in this country, but seeing a Silver and Red one in good light in Madison is a rarity. The train is paclng the Beltline Highway for the moment, but it will soon turn north and pass underneath it.

WSOR 3802
Title:  WSOR 3802
Description:  The crew of the MALPM picks up a covered hopper from the soon-to-close Royster Clark plant. The remainder of their train, which is made up tankers and covered hoppers, came from the town of Cottage Grove. Time will only tell how this area will look in the years to come. The neighbors of the Royster Clark plant, mostly homeowners, have been very vocally opposed to the plant for a long time. For now, the trains keep rolling...

WSOR corn sandwich!
Title:  WSOR corn sandwich!
Description:  Neither mosquitos nor hills nor sweat in my eyes could keep me from taking this shot. I'm 6'2", and this corn is absolutely dwarfing me as I'm standing straight up. Much of Wisconsin is suffering from a drought, but south-central WI is clearly doing fine. The exact location of this photo is unknown- I was biking in the middle of nowhere and turned down a long driveway to a farm to steal this shot. It's somewhere outside of Cottage Grove on the WSOR's short, but charismatic Cottage Grove sub.

WSOR 3802
Title:  WSOR 3802
Description:  The 3802 and its amazingly loud whistle usher a handfull of cars towards MX crossing at Olin Ave. on Madison's south side. This is the location of the junction between the former C&NW mainline from Janesville to Madison and WSOR's Central Soya spur. There has been talk in recent years about putting the former C&NW mainline back into service to reach a business park south of Madison, but it looks like a jungle for the time being. Out of picture to the left is Madison's first public pool. The pool looks fantastic, and, probably owing to high temperatures and beach closures, it's a smash-hit in its first summer of operation.

WSOR 2051
Title:  WSOR 2051
Description:  The MAJ (Madison-Janesville wayfreight) skirts along the southern shore of Lake Monona as it accelerates out of town. The hideous, but matching-colored building in the background is the Colliseum at the Alliant Energy Center (formerly the Dane Co. Colliseum). I've been trying to sandwich a train into a shot with the Colliseum in the background for some time now, and this is the best I could do. I wouldn't mind having this as the view from my back yard for obvious reasons...
