STRT 10 |
Description: |
This old GE has seen quite a bit of action over the years. Built in 1946 for the Coudersport & Port Allegany of northern Pennsylvania, it also served on the Wellsville Addison & Galeton Railroad before being acquired by the Stewartstown Railroad in 1972. Before it could move to new home rails in southern York County Hurricane Agnes struck, taking out the Northern Central line with it. With the STRT's only rail connection severed, number 10 was leased to the Lykens Valley Railroad for a little over a decade as well as spending a few years on Rail Tours Inc. excursions at Jim Thorpe. Finally in 1985, the STRT got their locomotive once the railroad took over operations on the Northern Central in addition to their original line between Stewartstown and New Freedom. |

LHR East Chester Station |
Description: |
Originally constructed as the depot at East Chester along the Lehigh & Hudson River Railway, this station was later moved down the line to the site of the Sugar Loaf depot, since demolished. Today it serves as a restaurant/deli along with a former Lehigh & Hudson River Railway wooden caboose. The LHR mainline behind the old station is still active with trains of both the NYS&W and Middletown & New Jersey railroads. |
