Album Info:Here is a two-page camera study by Mr. H.B. Peterson entitled "Railroads Play Landlord For Ike's Inauguration." It was published originally in the April 1953 issue of "Trains & Travel" magazine, pages 16-17. "So they could see a onetime general, university president, and G.O.P. candidate from Denison, Tex., take the oath for the nation's top office, thousands of his countrymen were moved into Washington for the big day, January 20, by the railroads ~ notably, the Baltimore & Ohio and the Pennsylvania." (Page 16)

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5379, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1924 and retired in April of 1958 after 34 years of faithful service.

Top Photo Caption: "First Republican presidential inauguration since 1928 pulled a parade of Pullmans into Washington; these in the Pennsy's 14th Street Freight Yard served their guests as round-trip transportation and capital hotel space too." In the center is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3843, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during March of 1923 and retired in October of 1955 after 32 years of service.
