Title:
PRR, Atterbury's M-1 Engines, Page 29, 1979
Description:
Here is page eight of an 11-page cover article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "Atterbury's Engines: Part 1 ~ Great Increases In Horsepower And Speed." It was published originally in the October 1979 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 29. Right Photo, Partial Caption: "Horse Shoe Curve . . . a single M-1, 6763, sports a tender worthy of her size as she leads tonnage upgrade on rails being sanded ahead of first and third pairs of drivers. This grade dictated 72-inch wheel." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6763, an M-1A built in Juniata during August of 1930 and retired in August of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. Notable here is table delineating all of the "PRR Mountain Tenders."
