PRR Westbound Pushers, #2 of 2, c. 1952
Title:  PRR Westbound Pushers, #2 of 2, c. 1952
Description:  Niles I. Here is the seventh of 11 original photos by George Niles, Jr., that were taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1952. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #4364 and #6710. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #4364 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" constructed as an I-1S in January of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in January of 1942, and retired in January of 1954. #6710 is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in April of 1930 and retired in September of 1952; note the trainphone apparatus on the tender's deck. They're rounding the Curve with a train of empty hopper cars that's heading up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignments. (#2 of 2)
