Alco’s Brooks Works (63072) Baldwin (52207) Louisiana Eastern 2-8-2 number 14 and 4-4-0 number 1 were parked next to each other at Shiloh, Louisiana. The 14 was originally Mississippi Central 120, built by Alco’s Brooks Works (63072) in July 1921. It was acquired by the LERR in 1953 and was scrapped at Shiloh in November 1962. The 1 was originally Red River & Gulf 104, built by Baldwin (52207) in August 1919. Paulsen Spence bought it in 1946 for his Comite Southern Railroad, then it became LERR 1 in 1950, and it was sold to the Stone Mountain Scenic Railway in 1961. |

Nice example of a 1913 Baldwin built American-type locomotive although the photo is degrading due to age. The 6 1/2-mile (10-km) railroad connected Ferdinand, Indiana and nearby Huntingburg. Specs - bldr #40594, 60" drivers, 160 psi boiler pressure, 15x24" cylinders, petite engine weight of 80,000 lb, petite tractive effort of 12,240 lb. The loco was retired in 1951 and scrapped in 1952. Unknown photographer and the date is approximate. |

This is #4. I'm not sure of the build year or date, but it was built by Baldwin. One interesting fact about this locomotive, is that it was purchased for $750! Talk about a bargin. Though the engine was in awful shape... you wouldn't be able to tell now. #4 is a classic 4-4-0 'American' type locomotive... and really fits the old-time look that Walt Disney was trying to portray. |
