GTW 4-6-2 #5632 - Grand Trunk Western
Title:  GTW 4-6-2 #5632 - Grand Trunk Western
Description:  Still standing proud is this 1929 Baldwin built Pacific in the Railroader's Park at Durand, MI, not far from the beautifully maintained GTW staKion it used to serve. This Pacific has high stepping 73" drivers, developed 200 psi boiler pressure for its 25"x28" diameter & stroke cylinders. According to the sign next to it, the engine weight was 257,000 lb. Definitely worth stopping by to see if in the area.

"Trains" Magazine, October 1973
Title:  "Trains" Magazine, October 1973
Description:  Here is a photo taken by Mr. W. Frank Clodfelter. It was published originally in the October 1973 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 33. Photo Caption: "A rare Pennsylvania K5 walks a string of varnish up a slight grade approaching Timonium, Md., en route from Harrisburg, Pa., to Baltimore in the early Forties when this railroad was advertised as The Standard Railroad of the World. These brothers to the world-famous K4's were built with greater starting tractive force and greater power than the K4's, and carried a boiler pressure of 250 pounds per square inch. Only two were built (in 1929) ~ No. 5699 shown here, and No. 5698." Engine #5699 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1929 and retired in September of 1953 after 24 years of faithful service.

Title:  PRR, Atterbury's M-1 Engines, Page 30, 1979
Description:  Here is page nine of an 11-page cover article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "Atterbury's Engines: Part 1 ~ Great Increases In Horsepower And Speed." It was published originally in the October 1979 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 30. Photo Caption: "'Mussolini' (above) was what Pennsy men dubbed experimental K-5 Pacific No. 5699, a Baldewin monster fitted with Caprotti poppet valves. Juniata-built sister 5698 (right and below) was equipped with orthodox Walschaerts valve motion. The two giants borrowed M-1 components and forecast the M-1a. Depression and electrification killed reorders of K-5's." Top Photo: Shown here is PRR engine #5699, a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1929 and retired in September of 1953. Altoona Shops Inspection Trip, Page 8, 1981
Title:  Altoona Shops Inspection Trip, Page 8, 1981
Description:  Here is page five of a 17-page version of the Pennsylvania Railroad's 13-page booklet entitled "Altoona Shops Inspection Trip ~ Sunday, May 16, 1937." It appeared in the September 1981 issue of "The Keystone" magazine, page 8. Partial Caption: "No. 5699, K-5 rolling into the old station at Harrisburg, Pa....Photo by Bruce D. Fales." #5699 is a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1929 and retired in September of 1953 after just 24 years of active service. Note the absence of overhead catenary; the PRR's electrification project had not yet reached Harrisburg ~ hence the change from electric to steam power at Paoli, not Harrisburg.
