EMD division of GM, this was there first real attempt to get away from straight cab design and allow for visibility to the rear.

But they definitely weren't the prettiest engines EMD came up with. The WM Rwy onwed 2 of the less than twenty built. Other roads that purchased them included the Maine Central and the C&O. I think the engine line would have progressed numerically (BL3, BL4....) if the there had been more appeal for them but the BL's were lost to the more versitile GP7. The WM Rwy's 2 spent most of there lives in Hagerstown, MD yard service and normally always with a slug companion (this was so these units could stay close to the diesel shop for there frequently needed repairs). They did however, have some early service working the last days of the C&Pa Branch to Mt. Savage, MD in the heart of Western Maryland.
