The design is the same as originated in 1921 with the Ae 3/6 (3 driven axles/6 axles in total). Two additional driving wheels were added to the design in 1927. 127 were built through 1934 and many were still in service in 1984. Uses a Buchli drive - a gear is on the outside of each driver on the far side of the locomotive. A two axle truck is used on one end to carry the weight of a heavy-low frequency transformer. |
