| Burlington Northern Railroad E9Am 9924 entering the Hill Street Yard at Aurora, Illinois on July 13, 1982, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The locomotive was built August 1954 (c/n 19633) as CB&Q E9 9994. It became BN 9994 on March 2, 1970. It was sold to the West Suburban Mass Transit District (WSMTD) on August 18, 1972 and leased back to the BN. During March 1973 it was rebuilt to E9Am specs by Morrison Knudsen in Boise, Idaho, returning as 9924. It continued in commuter service, owned by the WSMTD and leased to the BN for operation and maintenance under a contract with the RTA. It was named, "Walter T. Stanuch", (I have no idea who Walter was), and was retired July 1992. I do not know its final disposition. |
