This well-weathered Baldwin S12 was at Cargill's Terre Haute elevator, along the Mississippi River at Reserve, Louisiana. It doesn't have any identification for its current owner, except for a coating of grain dust; but it was wearing the identity of its previous owner, Avondale Shipyard 2, as well as the number of its original owner, New Orleans Public Belt 62. This locomotive was acquired by Cargill to serve as a parts source for its twin, the former NOPB 61. These two units had been built in December 1955, and were among the last locomotives built by Baldwin. |
