Union Pacifics Reyes Switcher (LOG11R 29) picks up tank cars from Cargill Milling in Lynwood, California (hometown of "Weird" Al Yankovic!) on August 29, 2012. Power for the train is a pair of NRE-built 3GS21B gensets, UPY 2737 and 2756 - and the conductor wanted me to be sure to include his comment that "these are the worst engines ever built." Note that lead engine 2737 has an aluminum apparatus on one of the exhaust stacks. The Reyes Switcher operates out of Mead Yard, on the border of Long Beach and Wilmington, and this job serves Compton, Rancho Dominguez, and Lynwood via the Alameda Corridor and the Patata Industrial Lead, working along Alameda Street north of Dominguez on the Dolores Industrial Lead as far as CP Compton. It also works the Reyes Spurs along the Del Amo Industrial Lead. (Thanks to Charles Freericks for the info on this local.) |
