CB&Q Class GM-6B 83839
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class GM-6B 83539 at Ciceqo, Illinois on an unknow` date in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. It appears there was a problem with the roof at this end. Close inspection reveals a cable holding the roof in place. The lettering at this end was readable. Partly in the roof shadow are the words: ROOF MUST BE LOCKED WHEN IN POSITION. Those words appear below each of the four roof lock locations. Below those words on the left end are these words: MORGAN GUARANTY TRUST COMPANY OF NEW YORK, AGENT, OWNER. It is also stenciled: NEW 3.68 . Built by the CB&Q at Havelock, Nebraska during 1968, one of 100 cars in the 83500 - 83599 number series equipped with removable roof sections. The October 1971 ORER ( Official Railway Equipment Register ) shows numbers 83500 - 83599 ( AAR Class E320, Mechanical Designation GBR ) equipped for for steel coil load.
