CN through freight traverses the S-curve at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 19 Mar. '14. Train was headed from Stevens Point to Green Bay, so it was slowing to stop, halt for a few minutes, and then reverse direction to take the line to Green Bay. Train had two locomotives; CSX 8619 was pulling, and soon to be pushing. I did not see the locomotive that was pushing and about to become the lead unit after the train reversed direction. The pile of scrap visible to the left of the locomotive rests atop the remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. |
