Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took at the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during the Summer of 1963. Shown here is the Vulcan 0-4-0 steam locomotive named "Nancy." The engineer is Bob Wingard. The builder's plate indicates "Vulcan Locomotive Works ~ 1918." This locomotive was retired during the Winter of 1963-1964, so it served faithfully for around 46 years! Despite all of the thousands of steam engines that were built by and for the Pennsylvania Railroad, this was the last operating steam engine in Blair County! "Nancy" is now on exhibit at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania. |
