Altoona Action. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during the Summer of 1968. Shown here are Penn Central Railroad engines #6171, #2330, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #6171 is an SD45 built by GM-EMD in December of 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower. #2330 is a GP35 built by GM-EMD in January of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Wave to the engineman! |
