Altoona Action. Here is an original photo that I took from the 12th Street Footbridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in June of 1973. Shown here (F to R) are Penn Central Railroad engines #6121, #8071, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #6121 is an SD45 delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad in October of 1966 and rated at 3,600 horsepower. #8071 is a GP38-2. They're passing under the Footbridge with a long string of hopper cars that they've brought down the Allegheny Mountains from Gallitzin and points West. Partially visible at the right is one of the original ~ and last remaining ~ PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. |
