One of the littlest "stars" in the 1948 Chicago Railroad Fair was this Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe 0-4-0 switcher #5, nicknamed "Little Buttercup" after a character in the Gilbert and Sullivan operatta, H.M.S. Pinafore. Originally built by Baldwin Locomotive Works as a saddle tank locomotive, ATSF 241,9 in 1899, it was rebuilt for the 1948 Chaicago Railroad Fair (seen here). Now it resides on display at Kelley Park in San Jose, CA. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
