The late afternoon sun glows on the stylish body of the retired GG1 #4864 as it sits in the Enola, PA, scrap line. Note the whitelined number making it official after its retirement from active service in February of 1980. Built by PRR Altoona shops and Westinghouse in January of 1938, it served for 42 years before reaching retirement. Two years later, Conrail conductor Ken Taylor took this color slide of it still sitting awaiting the scrapper's torch. |
