An E&LS train parallels Main St. (originally E. Railroad St.)/Hwy. 141 and approaches Monroe St. as it pulls 32 cars south via former MILW rails at Wausaukee, WI, on 27 Nov. '20. The interesting, old, white building partially visible beyond the first bulkhead flatcar is the historic Hotel Wausaukee, 502 Main St. Erected in 1889, many Milwaukee & Northern (M&N), later MILW, passengers undoubtedly stayed there. Extensively altered over the years, it is currently home to Graphic Impressions Photography. Some interesting information regarding the structure's history can be found at: http://www.hotelwausaukee.com/. An ice house once stood between the locomotive and Main St./Hwy. 141. There used to be a conjoined depot and freight house here, west of the rails south of Monroe St., out-of-frame to the right. I was thrilled to encounter a former MILW locomotive plying former MILW rails. A much better view of this scene can be found at: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5431528. |
