Aerotrain. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 1956. Shown here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Aerotrain," built by General Motors during July of 1955. After departing Pittsburgh and crossing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, it has stopped at the Altoona Passenger Station for a crew change and to discharge/pick-up passengers. Soon, it will pass under the 12th Street Footbridge on its way to Philadelphia and New York City. The structures in the background are part of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. |
