Here is the first of two original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5518, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built in Juniata during April of 1946 and retired in December of 1953 after just seven years of revenue service. Partially visible in the background is the very top of the Tipple. |
