Chione. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in June of 1963. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9574 and another "Shark" A-unit whose road number is not recorded. #9574 is a BF-15 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in March of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in December of 1963 after just 14 years of revenue service. They're pulling two (experimental?) hoppers and a cabin car, and will soon enter the New Portage Tunnel on their way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona. |
