Built by Lima in September of 1937 (serial #7737, class N), this beefy 2-8-4 Berkshire, PM #1201, served the Pere Marquette Railway well until being merged into the C&O roster in 1947. A year before that, the driver size was increased to 70" in 1946. It lasted on the C&O roster until being scrapped in 1954. Original specs - 69" drivers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x34" cylinders, engine weight of 436,500 lb, tractive effort of 69,350 lb. Ralph H. Payne photo |
