PRR Box Car 602584
Pennsylvania Railroad 40-foot, 50-ton box car PRR 602584 was in the Louisville & Nashville’s OLD TEAM TRACK at Pascagoula, Mississippi on 28 June 1958. The small lettering next to the car number reads RETURN WHEN EMPTY TO PRR BUFFALO FOR GRAIN LOADING. The car had a CAPY of 100,000 pounds, a LD LMT of 123,100 pounds and a LT WT of 45,900 pounds for a gross rail load of 169,000 pounds. This was one of 1500 X-43a Class cars in the 602000-603499 series that were built under American Car & Foundry Lot No. 3476 between December 1950 and February 1951. All 4,000 cars in the 600000-603999 series had a 6" white triangle above the car number which designated them for segregated maintenance. The cars were leased from the Chicago Car Co. and all maintenance costs were charged back to Chicago Car Co. This car was assigned Penn Central number 120494. The Rock Island car on the right was on the NEW TEAM TRACK.
