I live a few miles from Gallitzin, PA where the AR Tower is located. In our area of railroaders some folks say the AR designation for this tower stands for Allegheny Ridge. I just read a book The Wreck of the Red Arrow written by Dennis P. McIlnay, a friend of mine. In his book he refers to AR standing for AllegRippus also. A certain section of Central Pennsylvania ridges are named by this word. Also, on the website, The Broad Way-A Pennsylvania Railroad Home Page, they list it as AllegRippus. Can any of the railroad experts on this site shine any light onto which AR designation should be used?
