Can't Forget the Utilities!
Most railroad bridges in America now also carry various utility lines in additon to the tracks. On these bridges, there are the railroad communications and signal code lines, as well as fiber-optic cables and empty spare ducts. All of these must be temporarily relocated to a free-standing structure during replacement. In this case, it's a steel beam designed to support the weight of the cables, visible to the left of the girder G1.
