MP 8003 |
Description: |
The Missouri Pacific only owned eight SW8's. They were built in 1952 as Texas & Pacific 811-818 and spent much of their lives in south Louisiana, where they were used in yard and branch line service. The units once wore oscillating headlights and were originally considered light road switchers. Between March 1979 and May 1981 the MP rebuilt all of them into SL1 slugs. The 8003 and 8000 were resting next to the former TPMPT (Texas Pacific-Missouiri Pacific Terminal Railroad of New Orleans) engine house at Avondale Yard. |
