Description:  Here is a postal card entitled "Horseshoe Curve." No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "Penn Central GP35 2309 growls up Pennsylvania's famous Horseshoe Curve westbound with a merchandise freight. The curve, located west of Altoona on the former Pennsylvania RR mainline to Pittsburgh, was opened to traffic in February 1854. This scene was taken during the Penn Central era, September 1970. Description:  Altoona Action. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during the Summer of 1968. Shown here are Penn Central Railroad engines #6171, #2330, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #6171 is an SD45 built by GM-EMD in December of 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower. #2330 is a GP35 built by GM-EMD in January of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Wave to the engineman!
