CN 8866
Title:  CN 8866
Description:  I still had plenty more action on the Transcon, but something caught my eye coming south on the Barstow Sub; a W-GALGAL1-03. I had never caught a BNSF work train before, and I wasnt sure what it might have on the front. But being a work train, I thought maybe there was a chance it could have standard cab power, and/or an equipment move of some sort. So, I decided to leave the Transcon action behind and head north to Henderson for it. Well, sometimes taking chances doesnt always pay off, as the work train ended up being an empty CWR train led by 2 CN SD70M-2s, and I got cloud-banged on top of that. While definitely an interesting train, something I probably would not have passed up quantity for if I would have known better. Believe it or not, this is not the first time that I have gotten fooled by CN power here. Back in 2022, my dad and I raced north here for the L-CHI103 which we assumed would have some classic power on it, only for it to be a CN GEVO leader.

BNSF 6142
Title:  BNSF 6142
Description:  With nothing else lined in behind the coal train on the Burlington and nothing directly behind the Z train, I headed back to Cameron Junction for Q-CHISBD6-15 rolling east through the connection. A much slower, longer train than the previous one.

Title:  BNSF 6395
Description:  A quick hustle down the same road back to the Transcon for Z-LACWSP7-12. This thing was FLYING. Easily the fastest train I had caught all trip so far. It appears they are adding new signal heads to the 187 intermediates here as well.

BNSF 9013
Title:  BNSF 9013
Description:  I had plenty more action on the Transcon, but TMODS showed that I had a westbound E-CNMATM0-26 ready to blast off back toward the Wyoming coal fields on the Burlington side. Thankfully here west of Cameron, the tracks are less than a mile apart from one another, so it was a quick few minute drive over to nab it.

BNSF 4404
Title:  BNSF 4404
Description:  The plan was to sit and park at Cameron Junction for a little bit. But, things changed when I noticed I already had a train that was curving off the connection and heading west on the Transcon. Rack train V-BEADFI4-14 was sporting a nice pair of late 90s GEs on the front this day, and I definitely wanted to make sure I caught it. Trains can get up to speed on the Transcon in a hurry though, but thankfully I managed to beat it to the west side of Cameron in time for a quick shot. I suppose this redeems the poor shot I got of the Dash 9 on the Z train from earlier.

CSX 7260
Title:  CSX 7260
Description:  Another stop at the grain elevator for H-GALIHB1-15, one of the few freights that run on the Transcon east of Galesburg. Stacks and autorack trains dominate the Transcon between here and Chicago. And oddly enough, even though this was the daily IHB train which is usually a bunch of garbage freight, this train was almost solid autoracks for Gibson Yard in Hammond. A CSX rebuild was also the leader for this days IHB eastbound, another fairly rare sight on the Transcon.

BNSF 4100
Title:  BNSF 4100
Description:  I ended up spending a little too much time with the ore train, which allowed Z-STOWSP7-12 enough time to catch up on the Transcon. I just made it back to Chambers Street in time. Unfortunately, my settings were a little wonky and the tracks were completely in shadow here. Definitely would have wanted to shoot this H2 Dash 9 leader in a better location. But, it is better than missing the train altogether.

BNSF 5518
Title:  BNSF 5518
Description:  A teeny gap in the action gave me enough time to head up to Fremont Street and grab my first train on the Barstow Sub for the day. An inbound U train was coming and I was curious what it might be. It ended up being another one of those iron ore trains with mostly CN cars, and while I had hoped it was going to head right into the yard, my luck came up short when they stopped short of Fremont Street and tied the train down for a crew change.

Description:  With Amtrak out of the picture and still plenty of traffic on the Transcon, it was time to start working west once again to the other side of town, and eventually out to Cameron, as I had not been out there yet at this point. A quick stop at the dead-end at Seminary Street gave me westbound V-LPCNSI4-15.

AMTK 140
Title:  AMTK 140
Description:  Amtrak 4, the Southwest Chief, was right behind the California Zephyr, so I moved back to the station to watch them do their station stop. Nothing too special leading 4 that day, but look at all those bug splatters on the front of the locomotive. A sure sign that it is summer. It definitely could use a wash once it gets to Chicago.

AMTK 203 and BNSF 6679
Title:  AMTK 203 and BNSF 6679
Description:  Despite having plenty more traffic coming on the Transcon, I decided to break away and head back to the Mendota Side for both Amtraks which were now coming into the picture. There was a tied down H-GALBRC1-15 sitting out at Bishop that I decided would make for a good prop of the first Amtrak, the eastbound California Zephyr passing. Like I mentioned before, it is impossible to catch every train going in and out of Galesburg, so I was a bit bummed that I was missing some of the traffic on the Transcon. But, when Amtrak 6 came out from behind the freight and I saw the leader was Amtraks Operation Lifesaver Unit, I knew I had made the right choice! A great catch!

BNSF 4238
Title:  BNSF 4238
Description:  Since I was unable to get some of the shots I had wanted on the Transcon yesterday due to it being dead most of the evening, I decided that my all day outing in Galesburg was going to take a bit of a side track during the morning to shoot the morning rush on the Transcon out to Media and back. Dad and I usually visit Galesburg during Railroad Days, but because of the trip I was currently on, we were unable to go together this year. So, I decided I did want to take a full day of exploring the BNSF hub before I continued further east. No breakfast at the Baymount Inn meant a quick breakfast at McDonalds and down to the tracks at the grain elevator downtown to nab eastbound Z-NBYWSP8-12 in some sweet golden light. A good way to start the day.

BNSF 9109
Title:  BNSF 9109
Description:  Once the UP train cleared, eastbound Q-PHXCHI1-11 rolled through Peck Park with a pretty rare leader for the Transcon. Despite shooting mostly ACEs so far this trip, getting an ACe on the Transcon is a pretty rare treat, as these are not usually assigned to the speedy Z and Q trains on the Santa Fe. I guess theyre pretty inescapable for me.

BNSF 692
Title:  BNSF 692
Description:  And of course, by that point, another pulldown had been lined out of the yard. There were still plenty of trains to shoot on the Transcon, which meant I had only one place I could go to try to get them all; Peck Park. Peck Park is personally my least favorite area of Galesburg. While the two busiest lines converging in on the town cross one another here, the shot locations, especially on the Mendota Sub, are very poor, and railfans tend to flock to this section of town because they know they can see the most action here. However, with it not being Railroad Days and a random Tuesday, I decided to give it a shot and see what I could get. To my surprise, I was all alone. Ill take that! And despite being on the shadow side, I did get an "okay" shot of BNSF 692 on this pulldown. This Warbonnet looks a bit better than the last one.
